NEW YEAR SORROW: Goalkeeper Chinedu Agwu is dead

Former Kaduna United goalkeeper Chindeu Agwu is dead. He also played for Enyimba and Kwara United before he died on 1st January 2016.
The goalkeeper was 30-year-old as as at the time of his death and was reported to have
died after a protracted illness. A family member who identified his name as Chijioke disclosed this to newsmen yesterday.
Meanwhile a former Kaduna United teammate of the late goalkeeper Balogun Kayode, said he was aware of his illness.
May His soul Rest in Peace and May God console his family and friends. Amen.

I strongly and deeply believe that the death of this young player could have been averted his health was properly taken care off. For a former teammate to say he was aware of the illness means the club ( or the state government or his owners) knew  about this and did practically nothing to salvage the situation.
My advice goes to club owners (especially state-owned clubs) and stakeholders to critically look into players welfare packages as regards to medical check-up and treatment. This appeal also applies to the NFF and Nigeria sports commission as we prepare our athletes ahead of Rio de janeiro Olympic games 2016.
Secondly, the family of this young man should be heavily compensated for the loss of their child.
